Em Brasileiro o verbo “ TER” expressa posse , como na frase “Eu tenho um carro” ou “ João tem uma namorada, família, .. o que for .. mas o verbo “TER” também designa existência, como em “ tem um sujeito lá fora e quer falar contigo” ou “ tem uma piscina no prédio onde moro”.
In English we use the verb “To Have” para posse, e outra expressão, “ There is para singular = tem 01 e There are para o plural = tem + de 01 ”. Para expressar existência, o “HÁ” , do verbo “haver”. Vamos lá:
“There is a pool in the building I live” – tem ( há) uma piscina no prédio onde moro..
“There is someone out there waiting for you .. – ..tem alguém aí fora esperando ..
“There are too many cars in SP, so, as a result, there are constantly traffic jams* at the peak hours”.
* too many or too much de alguma coisa é considerado indesejável,
excessive … * traffic jams = congestionamento
“There is a gym\ health club* near Carlos´ house, and there are lots of people there in the evening”
* gym \ health club = academia
“There is little unemployment* in Brazil, currently* only 5%”
